Thankfully, I haven't had to post much in the forum as everything I have had to deal with on my '05 yukon xl has been covered by others already, but I haven't seen this one yet on here. I've been trying to clean up issues on my yukon because I'm looking to replace it with a truck in the near future. I've been chasing a "Service Ride Control" error. Long story short on this is that it's the compressor.
How I know that is that it was intermittently working for the last few months then finally stopped all together. All fuses and relays checked out ok. Even the exhaust solenoid checked ok, so my thought pattern in these instances is if it's already broke, might as well take it apart.
Upon taking the end plate off the compressor and exposing the crank, I found that I couldn't budge it. Let's keep going. I undid the 4 torx screws holding the motor to the pump housing. By "undid" I mean soaking them with PB Blaster for a day then, trying a torx driver, then my 12v impact which snapped the screws off in the pump casting. Not a big deal as one of the screws was only holding the cracked corner of the pump casting in place. Once removed, a pile of grit, rust, and casting shards came pouring out.
The good news is that once I poured out all the grit, I was able to move the pump. But in this case I've won the battle but lost the war as the pump housing is just crumbling in my hands.
So the dilemma. Given that I am going to be selling this in a month or 2, do I replace the compressor to make the system whole again, pull the rtd fuse and walk away, or put bilsteins on it and give the eventual new owner a decent ride?
