AWD Broken?

just curious. what kind of tires do you have? how wide is the track? If you have wide tires (like many like to put on their trucks), wider than OEM, you may want to pick up a 'winter' set of stock tires/rims. I picked up a brand new OEM 2016 set for $1000 on CL. That is if you have to drive in the snow and winter conditions, or if you go up north. Or some old rims, and throw on some thin winter tires.

P265/70R-17 Michelin Latitude Tour Green X

Only set I've had on her since day one. Which was weird cause they came stock and I liked the way they felt so that's all I bought. I think usually goodyears are the OEM so not sure why these were on there but they've been good.

^Those latitudes are good tires. My mom's 2011 grand Cherokee limited had them on it in the spring when she bought it and I liked the way they handled. Im impressed so much so with Michelins since I got my LTX A/T2s that I'm going with another set for the 20s I'm putting on the spring. Those are the same size tire I'm running on my stock 17s and I haven't had a single problem in the snow this winter even with a low amount of tread left on my tires. So I would venture to say your tires were not the culprit of your slide.

2002 Denali here. Is it possible for the AWD to be broken without an error coming up on the dash? Asking cause we just got some significant snow for the first time and I almost wrapped her around the telephone pole. Was doing 40, hit a thick patch of snow, and lost all control. Was able to get it back but man was that scary.

This is full time AWD with no switch and no low range? That one is not likely to fail and lose the front drive. Usually when it fails it binds on turns but still has front and rear drive.

No problem here with constructive criticism and I agree that I was driving like douche bag. Not an excuse but it was our first real snow fall so I tend to forget the most simplest of things like be careful.

Constructive criticism is cool but the biggest thing is you all are ok

So, not that you have been ***** slapped pretty good Let's back to the Truck. If you AWD was not functioning, you would know, you would have codes and really bad noises. With that said, here is the problem with 4WD/AWD. I grew up in Snow Country, and it does not change. AWD/4WD only help you go forward and backwards. They don't help you stop. They all don't help you on ice, although traction control can help. Regarding the Lattiudes, I run them on my wife's ML 550. They are big bucks, and they are ok in the snow, but as one other person said, M/S tires like the Michelin LTX 2 were made for this. On my Denali, that is what I run. You get 70k out of them, Michelins makes a great tire, they go through everything, but remember AWD doesn't help you stop. Hope that close's the loop unless someone else want to slap him one more time...

@Searay45db , good points! I wish I got 70k out of tires though! Lol. I'm pleasantly impressed though with how much I have gotten out of my Michelins. Unfortunately I have to travel up and down the mountain often and the grades and winding corners eat through tires like no other. I've got just under 20k on these tires and in a couple months they will need to be replaced. But such is the mountain life for me. Lol. But like you said the LTX is a fantastic tires. I'm replacing with another set.
