AWD reliability ? How much power can they handle ?

I'm looking to purchase a 2012 Yukon Denali with a 6.2, AWD and 122k miles. My knowledge of the GM AWD system is, well I don't know anything about it. I know Subaru's and Audi's for example can handle there fair share of power and abuse.

So I was curious what the GM could handle. Could it handle something like a Whipple and all that accompanies something like a supercharger ? Are the AWD components upgradable?

I plan on researching more tonight, (will post what I find if the info is already posted) but this is short notice, my wife just found it and we are going to look at it tomorrow when I get home from work.

that's a good year I have the same truck, the AWD system seems pretty good I haven't broke mine yet, when and if the rear diff goes out I will replace the g80 with a eaton detroit, I believe eaton also makes some better internals for the front diff as well, transmission of course can be upgraded if needed from what I have been told the 6l80e torque converters can sometimes fail and then it takes the pump with it but other than that I haven't heard anything bad about them and any concern about the torque converter can of course be addressed as desired. another member on here has his awd all built up and runs it on the track from time to time but can't think of the name at the moment.

Transmission and/or rear/front differentials will certain go before the transfer case... I can confirm, 2007 Yukon Denali AWD (BW4485 T Case) running over 850hp here. I beat the crap out of mine and not worried one bit. When I hit 157k miles or so I replaced the original G80 unit with a Detroit/Eaton TruTrac. I also rebuilt my front diff with better bearings but used original ring and pinion front and rear. No need to worry about the T Case, it's got planetary gears and a chain inside, not much to break, just a chain to stretch over time. Unless you launch with my kinda power on slicks you won't need to worry about it.

Hi Mike, there are guys on here putting over 500 horsepower through those systems and haven't broken them yet.

As I said, I beat the crap out of mine lol... 17"-18" lightweight wheels and drag radials and I might start to worry but I'm not there yet. Soon maybe on my quest to mid 10 second 1/4 miles.

Thanks for the info guys, it's greatly appreciated. I've never really considered the Yukon before, but thanks to my wife and a few minutes on youtube it's being to grow on me. Seems more luxurious than Tahoe but not quite an Escalade. And I really like the AWD concept.

the AWD is awesome especially on corners, lol and I wont mention the road signs... haahaa
