Cost difference between 87 and 92 (or 93 depending on where you live) probably isn't that bad but it all depends on how many miles you drive. It's mostly psychological. Like why we drive 10 minutes out of our way to save $.05 per gallon.
Where I live, there is a $.20/gallon difference between 87 and 92. I fill up about 3 times per month and buy roughly 20 gallons each time - that's only $12/month to go to 92 octane. Not that bad afterall!
