Im lookin to ditch the OEM 6cd beast and put in a single din for now.. noticed with the GMLan c2 data whatever that with the stock radio disconnected my truck wont go over like 8mph. Ive looked, and possibly overlooked my answer soo Ill risk looking foolish and just ask. Wanting to get rid of the oem head unit, and the bose amp..dont have onstar... soo what interface do I need if Im not looking to keep the bose amp, but would like to keep SW control interface and possibly the RSE audio n hvac controls? Or.. what do I need to rewire? Sorta lost in all this databus BS.. soo...summary..wanna lose the oem head unit/ bose amp...still want the databus thing to get a norm signal soo I can drive my tahoe.. um.. SW control module/rear seat features still functional.. no onstar..would prefer not to spend $100+ if its possible.

Just wanna be able to run an alpine multimedia h/u w my own amps and speakers..and my tahoe not freak out n shut me down.

Ive never heard of the truck limiting speed without the stock radio and Ive installed well over 100 aftermarket radios in these trucks without the use of a module. In my 05 XL I have a basic metra harness connected to the factory harness behind the a/c controls (basic harness that the bose jumper plugs into). I lost my chimes, RSE, SW controls, and RAP but everything else works perfect. If you want to retain RSE then you will need the module, no way around it. SW controls can be retained with metra's ASWC with or without the expensive harness. I believe its the GMOS-100 that includes everything but even on eBay it's over $100 or close. Where in OK are you? I'm in Wichita Falls, TX and do some of the best install work in the area for super cheap.

Yea, shocked the hell outta me too. had it unplugged, tried to drive to work and my DIC read something like limited power. pulled battery, reconnected, and still it said the same thing and would not let me go anywhere past maybe 10mph. it wasnt until, after trying a ton of other lil resets n checks etc that i thought maybe since the gmlan runs through the radio..and the whole thing bout having to have the right serial/vin etc for it to work in a 03-05 gm made me think maaaybe the radio had something to do with it. plugged it in, and started right up, no problems or anything. confused the **** outta me and still sorta does. what in my radio does the GMLAN need a signal from in my radio to run correct? Crazy stuff.. maybe ill try again here soon since most of my dash and my console are out and try and figure something out. I couldnt do too much at the time bc I was runnin late for work, and there was no way in hell I could drive 10mph the whole way there. Im in Tulsa btw.. and thanks bud, but I do ALL my own installs... it takes me a while due to lack of free time, but at least I trust my work and know who to blame when something goes wrong haha- Nothing against you but I cant stand to have other folks do my installs n repairs unless its something Im unsure of how to do it...or if its rebuilding an auto trans.. bc f.that.. swap it hah. So NO ONE has heard of that happening to anyone else before? If it makes a diff, its an 03, z71 w bose, no dvd, no onstar (least that im aware of or can find its module or connection to ANYTHING) Its bein a bastard at the moment w electrical issues too, if anyone can gimme a bit of knowledge... the abs wheel speed sensors are actin funny, but only if i hit a bump...im plannin on replacing them on this next brake job though...Also if I dont drive it within 3 or so days the batt goes dead.. replaced the batt w optima n the alt w a 200a...still...same issue, but shows no drain on a circuit check/load test w/e..? it beeps at me for no reason randomly like a check eng light or somethin is goin off...but its not.. and now my TPS sensor has shown a fault but only once...never came back up again but runs sorta off since then. any suggestions or input would be nice. N thanks for the info thus far. Once I figure out the electrical prob, im installing my amps n stuff. Ill post a write up n pics, im thinkin of goin a bit bigger than my usual builds, soo might be interesting... although I might have to keep the stupid delco connected n in the dash for a while n just bypass that whole mess for now.

Right on.. pulled radio/bose amp/ n the harness that connects to EVERYTHING in the console... drove it...no problem. Not sure whats up w it, but im gonna try n find detailed wiring schems on all those connections, where they go, what they splice into, and what they do and start hunting down my problem.. almost worried I have a computer issue or something..not sure which component of the ridiculous computer system this things got that I should start looking into first...but ill find out. Anyone have links to wiring diagrams/schems etc please send me a link or something. Feelin it might be a pain to find the right ones and with all the info on them I might be lookin for. Im good with computer systems, juust HAATE automotive computer systems.. swear theyre intentionally illogical and complicated. aaanyways I appreciate the help so far.. just curious, where or how do I tap into the SWC area to connect a module so I can make it functional for my alpine..or whatever else may be going in, in the near future.

yeah buddy, that's the joys of the 03 and 04 GM fullsize trucks. I've known several people have issues with those two years, including my mom's old 03 Tahoe. 03 was the first year for databus in these trucks so it's no surprise that there was issues.

Yaa i figured thats why...usually the first year or 2 of a new tech is glitchy n stuff.. this is getting frustrating...happened again, cycled the ign on/off n it worked after this last "Restricted Power" issue..yes its happened again...and again.. is there anything I need to address as far as the RAP system or..? any other system thatd cause unnecessary issues? Im in the mindset now that Im just going to hardwire/rewire everything new with this build.. not fun, but it will be done right I guess.. already have most the interior (front at least ) out soo might as well, right? so much to do, so little time and energy to spare. for now im just gonna wire n install my 3 lil alpine amps ( [email protected] [email protected]) and my old alpine idaX100.. n at least 2 subs...still havent decided which though.. Got an opinion bout the rear speakers? thinkin either using a comp set n put the tweets n those rear pillars...or using a 3.5in spk in the rear as a tweet.. like a kicker cs35 or somethin n just run only highs outta it n run a 6.5 midbass in the door..

Yaa I got the sw capability...after browsing wiring diagrams n how the computer ties into stuff that it just shouldnt, (vss/c2 data etc signals) I believe Ive got an electrical issue with a sensor or more... just coincidental w the radio thing, or it may have jus caused a slight fault to exacerbate my electronic demons that live within my bcms pcm ecm and all the tons of sensors that they tie into... lookin like its gonna be a long weekend checking wiring/cleaning stuff/checking faulty sensors n fixing or replacing them... scared its gonna be TAC related or somethin to deal w some other pricey part thats "unservicable" due to GM screwin over the lil guy with shallow pockets but mad skills.. We'll see what happens.. ill post a new thread over the weekend bc ive already modded the center console to accept a single din/bolted up my 4ch amp in the stock bose amp location...with slight modding to make it fit nice n clean.. thinkin of goin the extra mile and pullin seats n other trim/carpet and make it real clean lookin n nice lookin.
