Where did you put the coil spring booster? In between the rack and frame?

According to the simple fix in this article. http://www.brakeandfrontend.com/gm-simple-steering-noise-fix/.

He probably put the coil spring booster where the old power steering bushing was. You can buy it off eBay for about $16 (Mr gasket 1285 is the part number).

I ordered the coil spring booster and will attempt to change mines when it comes in.

No i did not put it where the original bushing was. I need to get down on the dirty floor and take a pic of what I did. I described it pretty well. Loosened all 4 bolts of the rack so they are just holding on by a thread, could completely unbolt but this is just what I did, took that coil booster which is round and jammed it between the rack and the frame in front of the rack so some was hanging under and over the rack, about in the mid section of the rack, it fits in there pretty tight, then tightened the bolts so its very solid, also putting pressure on the original bushings. There are different heights to the coil spring boosters, i need to find exactly which size i used so you dont get one thats too thick or too thin. I left it in its round shape when i jammed it up there but since it has the groove where the coil sits you could straighten the thing out and put the rack body in that coil groove also. Either way it wont fall out and does its job. So far my steering is still good. I just need to get down there and measure that booster i got and take a pic for you. Sorry I dont get on this particular forum too much.

Yes, a picture would be great. I'd appreciate it if you took the time to do that.

Ok cool. By any chance did you try and put it where the original bushing was?

You can see i left it in its round shape but could be straightened to go along the rack. This works fine though. The total depth of the coil booster is 1.75" but the inner part is 1" thick so I believe this would be a 1" coil spring booster.
