Gulleyman the tsb aplied to "Models:
1988-97 Chevrolet and GMC K Models
excluding 1988-93 Models over 8500 # GVW"

So it looks like '98 for the switch. Look at the your engine thread for that data dump within 30 minutes.

I just thought of a neat test to determine which 4x4 setup (push button vs. manual lever) potentially has the highest failure rate.

We can count the number of 'Help me, the 4x4 led is blinking' threads on here vs. the number of 'my lever is jammed' threads.

I'll start. Too be honest, my lever was jammed when I bought the truck. It hadn't been used for some time and the rods were gunked up. But a can of contact cleaner/degreaser fixed that right up.

And, maybe I'm paraniod but this thread has got me thinking that there may be a problem with my front axle then. No one else seems to have instant on with the lever. And the past few weeks I've lost about 100kms per tank of gas in fuel economy. The truck is feeling slower and a bit more lethargic. And once last week on a rare occasion that we have bare dry pavement, I pulled into a Tim Horton's parking spot and the front felt like it was binding as if it was in 4x4. The next time the truck is up in the air, I'll look into my front axle thingy. Sunlitcomet figures there is some type of something there, I'll see if I can find it.

So here we can show that both types have issues. But based on the number of 'help me' threads, the push button may potentially have more issues.

mine is the transfer case switch that relays voltage from the fuse to the actuator causes the actuator to not engage and hence feedback switch does not report a complete shift therefore blinking light. it is a little cold outside right now to lay on the ground to fix. fingertip freezer burn just replacing my ignition components today.

99yuk when you get air try to move each component and let me know how it or something else reacts like in 2wd and in park does front shaft spin freely, does it make one or two wheels spin, does spining one move the opposite same or reverse direction. You get my drift.

So after a snowfall for the last few days, I've been mostly in 4x4. And I started to pay attention to the engage/dis-engage times. It engaged instantly, however it took longer and longer to dis-engage. Today I brought it in the shop, and the apprentice replaced the front axle actuator. It works better now. I still havn't noticed a delay when engaging yet, but it dis-engages within 30seconds now.

Thanks for the heads up guys.

Gosh totally forgot how ****** up my 4wd was, personally I hate autotrac bush button 4x4 in my 98' the only one that works is 4wd auto if I push the button a million times then it groans and whines like a ***** and slams around. Infact for a LONG time there, I was stuck in 4HI. Thus I wasted a set of Good year Dura Wranglers in about 15,000 miles.

I have the push button as well but have yet to use 4HI or 4LO. I use the auto setting and have yet to get stuck. 2 storms this winter of more than 18 inches and drove straight thru the hills to my job at night.. I love it. I actually put in 4LO and 4HI to see if things still worked and there were no problems. I guess I'm just lazy! LOL
