I just bought a 07 Yukon Denali and when I start the car up in the cold the belt squeaks for about a minute. I haven't tried digging into it much. So was kind of wondering if there was a common problem out there.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks

SW CT,
mine has been doing that for about a year now, I even took apart the idler and tension pulleys to regrease the bearings, no difference, it is the belt compound. It also does it more whenever it is damp out.

With a squirt bottle I sprayed some soapy water on the inside of the belt as it was idling, the squeak stopped for a few days, repeated treatment and after three treatments it stayed quiet . I believe some sand dust gets ground into the belt, pulley area and glazes the surface. Annoying but harmless. --Floep--

My 2007 fan belt squeaks too. It just start a week or so ago. I used to have a rusty 1979 GMC and I would carry small hotel soap bars with me. I would put it in park with the engine idoling and press the soap against the fan belt, I can't remember how often I would do it but it was a temporary fix that only took a few seconds.

I tried belt dressing on mine,(It had a cheap autozone belt to begin with) worked for a while (an hour or so) then sounded like a sneaker with gum stuck to it,a different annoying noise....I tried
After removing the old sticky belt I cleaned the pulleys with electrical cleaner and a wire brush.Had lots of gunky black buildup...
I picked up a new Dayco, and proceeded to nicked it putting it on, but all noises are gone.
Going to pick up another new Dayco and not #@*! it up putting it on this time.lol

Try a bar of soap with the truck running hold the soap on the inside and then the outside and it will stop the belt squeling its an old school fix but it works I have done it several times just make sure your belt is not cracked or has missing teeth first.
