Anybody had to replace the A/C belt tensioner on thier kon or hoe? My a/c started making a high squeeking noise only when the a/c is on. My mechanic had me rev up the rpm's to 2k-3k and turn on the a/c on, noise started, turned off the a/c noise stopped. Pin pointed it to the a/c belt tensioner. Went to Autozone got a new one (Dayco $38). We put it on and the noise is still there. Decided need to go with a AC delco brand ($68). Just wondering if any of you had to replace this part yet and how it worked out for you.

Well if the problem is there only when the A/C is on, my guess would be its the A/C when the clutch is engaged. The belt and pulley are always turning so if the noise isn't there when the A/C is off then I would look into the compressor itself.

+1...sounds like your compressor is going bad

I'm not having any problems with cold air. The ac is blowing cold air even when the noise happens. I will certainly check that but so far no problems with the air being cold.

Sounds like it's just starting to go bad. Even though it is still spinning and producing AC, the bearings on the compressor are probably going bad and producing the noise. As mentioned earlier, that belt and the compressor pulley are always spinning when the engine is running. When the AC is turned on, the clutch on the compressor is engaged and the compressor begins spinning with the pulley. You are hearing the noise once the clutch engages, so the compressor itself is what is creating the noise.

Yep, I agree with everyone else that it's not the tensioner since the noise is only happening when the ac is on, it's either the compressor or the belt! I'd switch the belt out with a new one if the one you have now is old, it's a cheap enough part!

Then again it could be the tensioner after all, might not be putting enough tension on the belt which you would only be able to hear it squeak when the compressor is on, still shouldn't be the tensioner that is squeeking since it's not all the time but might actually be the belt, either way I would replace the belt first.

Went to get an AC delco tensioner at the stealership this morning. Called and talked to them yesterday about what it was doing and had them hold the tensioner for me. parts guy told me he talked to the lead tech and the lead tech doesn't think it's the tensioner either. Said sounds like the compressor is putting to much pressure on the tensioner which means the compressor is going out. Just going to take it into my mechanics shop and have them diagnos it. Thanks for all the help. Just had a new power steering pump put on it last Tuesday. When it rains it pours.
