I have an 08 Denali and looking for the best long tube headers and would like to go into a true dual exhaust. My eventual plan is for cams and intake, with possible forced induction later. I'm also curious if dual 3" exhaust would work well or be too large diameter and harm my back pressure for low end torque. As always, thank you for any help and info.

Choosing headers will come down to where you live and what is legal. The best headers out on the market (least amount of fitament issues), are Dynatechs, AEM, Thorleys. Not sure who has headers out for the 6.2L yet, as the problem lies with the collectors and the different types that the 2008+ vehicles can have.

Kooks always make a great header and they do make them for the denali. A 1 7/8 pipe with a 3 inch collector is a must with a 6.2. I know thunder racing dot com sells them.

Jenna and Justin, thank you for the information. I'm very fortunate that being in Washington, I do not have any restrictions for headers. I am very familiar with Doug Thorley headers, and had a set of JBA's several years ago on my Silverado, so I will take a look at the suggestions you listed.

Edit: after checking out all of the options that I could find, I'm really impressed by the Kooks headers. So once I get my brakes done (parts ordered) I hope I can turn attention to getting those picked up. I really like that the Kooks have a long tube header for our trucks.

Now Jenna, my question for you with your background in tuning, would a "true duel" exhaust in 3" be ok with eventual plans for tuning and either internal parts or induction? Or will that be too large, thus causing too much of a drop in back pressure? I know short term it would rob from low end torque just from the physics in back pressure, just not sure on overall performance or if best in long term.

Thank you again.

Joe

When you say true duals, are you going with an X or an H pipe or straight through?

We ran true duals with an X pipe on the SSS with over 650rwHP no issues. We have straight pipes to Spintechs on the 72 K5 (LQ4 swap with TVS2300) no issues. Really it will come down to the muffler and how you are routing the pipes.

Thanks Jenna! I was referring to duals with an X pipe for equalization on pressures and scavenging. I appreciate the info!

No problem. I would definitely recommend it, just make sure you have a good flowing set of mufflers on there.
