My girlfriend has her mind set on the NNBS Tahoe and I am trying to help her decide on what year, options etc. Unfortunately, I don't know what they changed from each year to the next on the NNBS but I feel like you guys here know these trucks inside and out. I did some searching on here, but wasn't able to find what I was looking for.

So what are the years to look at or to avoid? Options you would recommend or not? Is there a resource that lists the changes from one year to the next?

Thanks for the help guys :)

Prob. any 08 up w/o the gay automatic wiper feature is your best bet.

2007 and 2008 are almost exactly the same I think. 2009 brought the 6 speed trans and 6.2L motor option which was only availble in 2wd in the past. 2010 has some new chrome trim and stuff on the LTZ.

Just some of the things I can think of off hand. Really depends on how much your gonna spend and what model. I haven't of any bad years yet.

Yeah, unfortunately she is limited to under $30k, preferably closer to $25k. But she is set on cloth seats (hates the sticky feel of leather), so that should help keep the price down while still getting a newer model with low miles.

The main difference came in 2009...with the 6sp transmission (believe it is std on all the models...maybe not the LS?). Bluetooth is also avail now (believe came standard in 2008).

Good luck, she will love the Tahoe. I bought one in NOV'07 and sold it a year later since I didn't think I needed it and gas prices are high. Not a day goes by that I am not kicking myself. Lesson learned...drive what you like. Unless you drive a TON of miles...the difference in getting 18-20MPG -vs- mid to high 20's isn't really that much. Waiting on cash back rebates to hit $4k on a 2010 then I am jumping on one.

Also, is there a part of the VIN that can tell me the engine it has? Looking for a 5.3 Flex Fuel, but nobody seems to list the engine size, just "V8".

For example, here is a VIN of a tahoe I was looking at today: 1GNFC13CX7R324339 How can I dissect it?

if you have the funds you want a 2009+ with the 6 speed, huge improvement.

99% of tahoes have the 5.3L you said flex, the 4.8 isn't a flex. I am also fairly sure that the 5.3L flex also means it is a 4x4, but im not 100% on that.

Flex fuel means that it will run on E85. The flex fuels are equipped with a high flowing fuel pump, injectors and stainless steel fuel lines. The reason I want this, is that down the line if you want to go forced induction, like the tahoe in my sig, you are already set. Also, if gas prices go through the roof, it's nice to know you can use E85.

And is the new 6 speed transmission really THAT much better? The difference in price btwn a 4sp 08 and 6sp 09 would be a few thousand bucks at least.

She is looking at the 2007's now, more in her price range. Anything to look out for or common problems with those models?
