So I was getting off the highway today and had to hit the gas in order to make it to my off ramp. I gave it about 85-95% throttle when I let off it stuck at about 40% (not the petal the tb) I stabbed the gas to try to knock it loose but it only went to about 30%. My work was only about 100 ft away by that time so I just parked it there. I screwed with the throttle body from under the hood for a little while, both the throttle cable and the cruise cable had slack in them, so I know it is sticking somewhere internal. It's hard to open and to close by hand. But if I work it back and forth I can't get it to stick. Any ideas of what it could be? Should I go ahead and replace it or just clean it?

edit: It didn't stick at all on my way home, but right before I shut it off I revved it and it stuck again..

Use some of that throttle body / fuel injection cleaner, it comes in a white/red bottle at an autoparts store. Works wonders, don't touch the TB with your bare hands... Btw.

Also check and make sure you don't have a vaccum leak?

u said the cables move freely..what about the gas pedal?

Yeah the petal is fine. When I realized the throttle was stuck I actually pulled up on the gas petal to no avail. Its binding somewhere around the butterfly valve. I have heard the petals can stick in our obs's but I wish my problem was this simple. Depending on what I find wrong with it I may go ahead and pull the trigger on the ported tb. So it's back to the ricer until I figure this problem out.

did something get sucked in your intake and get lodged? or are the throttle blades loose?

The blade could be loose, or the pivots (can't remember what they're called right now) could be worn out. I'm not sure what kind of job replacing the throttle body is on these things, but it's usually pretty painless. You could probably get one cheap at a junk yard.
