Hey all,

I have a 1999 Tahoe with the 5.7 and 4l60.
It started making a new noise about a week or two ago. It usually happens around 60kph or 80kph, and it sounds like a bird is chirping super loud. I'm new to owning a Tahoe so I'm unsure what common problems are, hoping a wizz on here might be able to help.

I also have a metal tinging/knocking sound when I take off sometimes. I have a small leak from the output shaft on my transmission, so I'm thinking if I replace the seal it will take it away. But I'm also worried it could be the actual transmission.

I have a video of the noises, I will try and upload them and edit the link into the thread.

EDIT: here is the bird chirping noise

And here is the metal tinging noise

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like it could be a loose or broken heat shield, broken catalyst in the converter, loose flex plate bolt(s), or cracked flex plate.

you're referring to the metal noise? I will check out those parts. It only makes the noise under load aswell

I didn't hear the "bird chirping" noise in the first video. What I head sounded more like a tin metal scraping/rattling sound.

Could also be dry and worn U-joints, unless it does it when sitting still.

okay gotcha. I will try and get a better video of the chirping noise. Its quite loud in person but the wind muffled it a bit

I'm going to my buddies tonight to have a look under the car with his inspection camera. I'm getting really bad mileage too, a bad flex plate will give bad gas mileage won't it?

I don't see how.

What are you referring to as "really bad mileage"? Do you have an actual MPG number? Did the bad mileage start around the same time as the noises?

Flex plate won’t effect mileage
