Sounds like a great mod! Is it $250 for an 07 Denali with the 6.2l also? Sounds like a great deal! What kind of numbers has anyone had with the 6.2?

Just got back from a 2,900 mile jouney from Boston to Gainesville, Fl and back while towing my ~2,800lb race truck and open trailer (~1,300lbs). I was a bit disapointed in the 5.3L. Towing locally has been fine. Once on the highway for extended periods of time in cruise at about 65-70 mph I found the tranny hunting for a lower gear every time the elevation changed. There wasn't enough torque at ~2k rpm to keep speed.

It was a bit embarrasing becuase my buddy's TBSS towed the same load in 2010 and it didn't hunt nearly as often (another 70ft*lbs of torque didn't hurt). What really bothered me is that the TBSS with AWD averaged about 12 mpg, but because the 5.3L had to hunt so much more and struggle to keep speed the Tahoe only averaged 12.6mpg or worse. She needs more nut at lower RPMs. Do you think the BB tune will make a big difference here?

Have you cleaned your MAF and throttle body lately? Have you ever had issues towing before?

The hunting could be a few things, but what octane are you running and what mods?

Never cleaned them. Never had issues towing before either, but this is the first time I've towed long distances with the Tahoe. I don't think it is a mechanical problem, it just needs more "nut" to maintain speed on hills.

87 octane and the only mod is a GM performance catback...I have a GM performance cone filter setup but I haven't installed it.

I would recommend cleaning them, and running 89+ octane. You will notice better MPGs and performance.

A tune will help you with the gear hunting. A supercharger will help you with the "nut" :)

The stock ECU is capable of advancing timing to take advantage of 89?
