I am just about to order my Black Bear Tune from Justin at Black Bear and I have a question for anyone who has one. My question is, did you keep your stock ECM and TCM? The only reason I would keep it would be for warranty work, however I really want my core charge back.

With that said, is there anyone out there who took their rig in for warranty work without pulling their Black Bear? Any help would be appriciated.

For those who have no idea what I am talking about, here is the link

This is hands down the best performance mod for the money
(except for a super charger of course)

Might want to keep it. I have heard GM is going to start cracking down on that kind of stuff. So if you have a problem they might void your powertrain warranty.

I had mine done in person, so I kept my stock PCM. I took the truck in for some warranty work and they ended up unknowingly flashing clean the PCM due to my ABS light coming on (really low gears). I had to have Justin send me another PCM. Looking back, if I had the extra cash laying around, I woulda paid the core charge. If it wasn't under warranty I wouldn't worry about it

That is exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks. Deep down I knew that was what I needed to do, but hoping that I might be able to get away with it. I guess it is better to play it safe. Thanks again.

Also, how has that Black Bear treated you so far? Still loving it? And did you go with a more economy minded tune or performance?

What does the tuning do for you? Can they tune it on a stock LT3?

I love the tune. Definitely notice it there... would be impossible not to. Justin's a really cool dude and I will definitely take any future car to him. I went with an in between tune. Noticed about 2mpgs better as well as much better throttle response.

Yes they can. They can do whatever you want. You can get an economical tune where you can see up to 3mpg better. Performance tune where...well...makes you want to join nascar...or in between.

My first PCM from Justin acted up a bit and remembering a Chrysler I had that ate computers I decided to keep mine as insurance. Now if the truck acts up I can swap out the PCM to see if it's a tuning problem or something else. Since the security routines in the PCM are already set for my truck I can just plug and go instead of waiting for a working computer to get sent to me.

i kept my stock pcm just because i have over 2 years left on my extended warranty and didn`t want to take a chance. it`s simple to swap when i need to have a dealer fix it.
