Well we just got back from Bridgewater NJ getting an in person tune on our 2006 SSV 160K on the clock.
If your on the wall about getting a tune from Black Bear just do it ! The tune is WELL WORTH IT.

Advantages noticed so far :

Fuel economy is up , quite noticeably.
Performs MUCH better.
Transmission temperature lower.
Shifts nice and clean.

It was a pleasure meeting the Black Bear team , Jason and Jarrod are good folks. They did a great job on my Tahoe. I highly recommend they're service.

I was there Saturday. Definitely better shifts, highway performance is very noticeably improved, haven't checked gas mileage yet and don't want to bc I been flooring it a lot. I used to run 87 octane but I'm trying 89 to see if I get better gas mileage- performance hasn't been any better than 87 though, so prob not worth the extra cost.
How is your performance off the line? I notice that if I floor it, I kinda bog down a bit (did this before the tune too). I don't have any mods though but am getting an airraid jr soon.

All in all, truck runs much better.

Off line , slow roll the hit is fine. Airraid won't be worth it IMO.

What octane did he tune your rig for ? Gear ratio ? Tire size ?

I was accelerating more smoothly today, instead of flooring it off the line.....seemed better. I got the 87/89 octane tune. Tires are 275/55/20 and stock gear ratio (not sure, 5.3 SLT w tow package).

I'll try to explain:
The 275/55/20 tires are big. The big tires effectively lower the gear ratio. The stock gear ratio is 3:42.With your tire height your ratio was reduced to @ 2:90 (est) . That combined with a @ 5000 weight . Makes it tough to get going from a dig.

Thanks, makes perfect sense.
