Black Bear tuning Question

Wow

We just bought a 2007, 136000 miles, CAI and fatback flow master and we only get 14.2. I've reset it a couple of weeks ago and hoping there is some magic in the mileage, but not yet. How do you get 20 MPG?

The AVG MPG i get is 20 city 23 Highway with 91 octane tune, Corsa Sport and Airaid tube with slight spirited driving.

Mine is also an 07 with nearly identical mileage, and I see the same average MPG. Keep in mind that the 07-08 trucks still have the old 4 speed 4L60E transmission, whereas the 09+ trucks get the 6 speed 6L80E. Two extra gears means a taller cruising ratio in 5th and 6th gear, and higher MPG overall - so don't let the results throw you if they come from someone with a newer truck.

I'm happy with my tune, I've been using BBP for my tuning needs since 2009 and they've always taken care of me. My mileage gains have never been noteworthy with any of the trucks they've tuned, but living in Colorado kills MPG no matter how you slice it. Less power due to altitude and constant elevation changes are no bueno. Just part of life.

Recently had PCM Dyno-tune on sight. 2-4 mpg increase. Great people to work with.

I seem to have picked up ~3 MPG on the freeway in my 6.2L. I haven't done enough in town driving to see how it does there.

I have a 2013 Avalanche 5.3 with 6 speed trans, I often clean the throttle body when i feel acceleration is sluggish i also use only Mobil 1 Synthetic + Mobil 1 Oil filter in all of my oil changes and fill up with 91 Octane gas plus i leave 2WD mode on 24/7 and have all 4 tires at the correct PSI seems to help lots.

Is there anyway to change shift points on an 07 denali with six speed with out autocal? It seems BBp never get up in my area. Anything planned for the twin cities area anytime soon!

It's an suv that weighs over 3 tons. I personally think when you get a vehicle this big with no aerodynamics gas mileage is out the door. It's all about comfort and how much speed you can get out of it.

For everybody that has seen gains in mpg with a bb tune, did you keep the afm or disable it? It seems it would be difficult to get 20mpg with the afm disabled unless driving like a hypermiling Prius and on flat land only

I saw 19 mpg, 19.2 was my best, a few times traveling through Kansas and Oklahoma with a tail wind and cruise set at 70. That was a stock '07 4wd LTZ (3.73 gearing) with AFM still active and calculated using Fuelly.com. I was never able to get the computer's MPG numbers to match the actual calculated value. Sometimes it read high, sometimes it was low.
My Tahoe's "lifeime" average while using Fuelly was just shy of 15 mpg.

I would fully believe at a 2WD tahoe with 3.08 and the 6l80 to be able to beat 20mpg easily.

At the bottom of your stats page on Fuelly, it shows how much you would save by increasing your MPG. IIRC My Tahoe stayed around $4 saved with a 2 mpg increase. Right now for my Suburban, it's claiming $8.86 would be saved if I increase my MPG by 2 based off of my last fill up. The advantage if a bigger tank I suppose.

At $4 per tank at the rate I drove and assuming that everything stays the same, it would take about 18 months to "save" $400. That makes it difficult to justify spending much to improve MPGs. I could probably save more than that by drinking a little less beer or drinking R&R instead of Crown. Bleh.

When I sent my first log to blackbear I had a stock 2007 denali. I was getting 8 mpg due to city driving and a faulty knock sensor. My car ran ok. But had a serious lack of power from 1500 rpm too 2500 rpm. And it showed every time I needed the power. I sent a log over and Jason told me it looks like a bad knock sensor which threw no codes. Even though I just replaced them both. So my experiance is this.

Spent over 1200 $ taking my car to shops and mechanics that said nothing was wrong. Bought the autocal from BBP. Sent 1 data log and found my problem. Fixed it and sent my first log.

Got my initial tune and installed it. I will post results in another thread but they are well worth the price.
Sent over another log with the new tune and knock sensor replaced.

Installed an airaid mit tube and flowmaster 50 series delta muffler and k&n filter. Sent over second data log.

Waiting for my next tune. And I am installing long tube headers next weekend. Which will be another tune.

So in 1 month, I have got my car fixed by email, got 4 updated tunes, and I'm back to 19 mpg. And more power than I have seen from this car ever. Don't even get me started on the transmission. That alone was worth more than the cost of BBP auto cal and tune.

Just buy it already!
