i bought a new control unit so that high speed would work on my blower fan. put it in and high worked for maybe a day. took it back out to clean connections and the wire is pretty bad but i cleaned it as much as possible and put it back together and tried it on high and smelled something burning. looked under glove compartment and had a glowing connection. I cut out the plastic connector and spliced wires together (will try to attach picture of wires) but never could get high to work again. now my blower is making a funny noise and i want to replace it and want to replace the wire connector to the switch with new connector.

my question is if i replace the blower should it work on high again if i put a new connector on the switch side? also what would make those wires melt where they were connected? since i have spliced them they haven't felt hot.

where's a good place to buy a blower and the wire connector to switch?

another thing is the rod that activates the defroster keeps coming off. i am thinking if i can get one drop of super glue on the end of it that might fix that problem.

My wires burnt last year and I went to the bone yard and grabbed another connector, dash control switch, new resistor (dealer), and new blower (parts store) and no problems now. The resistor is located behind the glove box under the dash cover.

if high does not work either the hi-speed power relay was damaged or the blower speed switch which controls it was. or its wiring. relay is next to the resistor.

i changed the blower and still did not have high speed.

i could not find the resistor anywhere. can someone tell me where it is? - i found a tech write up in this forum that shows me where the resistor is. it is supposedly behind 2 bundles of wires is why i didn't see it.

if you do not have just high speed then the resistor is not your issue you need to concentrate on making sure you fan switch is fully functiional as well as relay for power supply switchover. check to make sure there is system voltage on orange (not dark orange) wire coming out of fan switch and on to the hi speed relay behind the glove box when on hi. and voltage on the red wire to relay at all times.
