Time to change the brake fluid in our 2008 Tahoe.
Interested in knowing the aproximate amount of fluid needed and any suggested affordable brands if there is really any difference. I understand that it takes DOT 3 but beyone that does it matter?.

I looked in vain for the answer to that question too. I figured 2 quarts to flush the system and refill it after replacing and rebuilding the calipers and wound up sending the kids to the store for more and more quarts. In the end, we used six quarts to flush the system and bleed them traditionally and the ABS Pump with the Tech-2 which went through a lot of fluid.

I don't think that's normal, most guys on here don't use half that when flushing out the old for new but that is what it took for my then 11 year old truck to have clear fluid again.

You had to fill the rebuilt calipers, that takes some extra fluid.

Buy it by the gallon. Also pressure bleeders seem to go thru more, but its way easier and faster. I always figure 2 Qts as a minimum amount and hope I get lucky and don't go to 6. I Change it every year on the whole fleet.

I am curious what the exact proper procedure is for bleeding. Using a pressure bleeder and what steps. Does the ABS get bled by the Tech 2 just once when you do the furthest wheel or do you have to do it for each wheel?? @swathdiver @Rocket Man @iamdub @Fless

Bleed the ABS pump first according to what the Tech-2 tells you to do and then bleed each corner the traditional way.

How does the old fluid get pushed out? Is there a bleeder on the ABS unit too?

One of the kids went to whichever corner the Tech-2 told them too and we bled that circuit.
Interesting. So the Tech 2 ABS bleed gets done first, and it tells you when to do each wheel in the process. Then you do the standard/traditional bleed after that?
