I went through something like 6
first round flush w/o tech 2, second round w/tech 2.
good 3 quarts each round.

My fluid was blue/green. :puke:

I also had to remove my calipers and flush them while holding them up with the bleed screw on the bottom.
grit got in there and prevented the bleeders from closing.
That damaged some of the clear coat on one of my wheels before i figured out that i had a leak. :jester:

Is the tech 2 necessary? Can't we just do a normal fluid replacement/bleed, being careful not to let the master go dry?

The Tech-2 is necessary if you want to bleed and replace the fluid in the ABS pump. If not, do a regular bleed but I don't think that will replace all the fluid. I'd have to see a diagram to refresh my brain on how it all works.

I was just looking at my 2007 shop manual and was surprised it calls for a traditional (two person) or pressure (one person) bleed and says to use the Tech 2 ABS bleed only if the pedal is still spongy after the traditional or pressure bleed (or if the lines to the ABS modulator were broken, the ABS modulator was replaced, etc.)

Not sure why I had it in my head the dealers always used the Tech 2 and the ABS modulator to bleed the system.

I saw similar in mine. Easy Peesy. No desire to make things harder than they are.

On the GMT400, you can bleed ABS by cycling key on while standing on brake pedal. I would have to check all the later models to confirm but probably works as well.
Thanks to whomever it was that offered that tip long ago here on TYF.
