When I first got my truck the brakes were pretty scary. They were soft and had a lot of travel and it took a lot of effort to stop. I pulled the front wheels and the pads were worn but not bad. The rear brake shoes looked almost like new and I knew that that was most of my problem. I replaced them with premium pads and had the original rotors turned and just to see if it it made a difference I drove it around before I messed with the rear brakes. There was an improvement in braking but still a lot of travel and sponginess. I then adjusted up the rear brakes and the sponginess went out of the pedal and it finally made the truck brake decently.

I think by self adjusting they mean that it is your "self adjusting" them all the time!

I figure my rotors are good for another year or two and when they go I will be going with the recommendations made by so many here that being Powerslots and Hawk pads.

anyone know where & what brand of rear shoes are good for our Tahoes? I've done a few searches and came up fairly empty handed in terms of finding a good premium brand...

Honestly, you'd have better luck with some mulch glued to your pads than those organic POS.

But back to the brake issue, can the rubber lines really make that big of a difference? Mine are 11 yrs old now, perhaps time for a change?

I replaced the brake lines and master cylinder as well and the problem remains. My next step is to take it to a shop and have them bleed the ABS unit. A friend tells me a local shop will do it for around $60. We'll see.

I just read that sometimes the ABS module needs bleeding. To do this requires using a tech 2 scan tool to manualy open the combination valve and activate the ABS Pump. I hear it's the only way to clear trapped air. Then do a complete bleed at the wheels. our problem has somthing in common that we have all overlooked. Can anyone say they beat this problem and HOW???

You do both procedures several times. But it is not a scheduled type of service. The ABS part is only done when circumstances dictate it. Like having to replace the module.

There is a spot to access the adjuster it's hard to see and a pain to knock out I had to do
it on mine.10" or 11" has it.
