Brakes squeaking since puting 24's on??

I just put 24's on my Tahoe last week. The tires are 305/35R24 and have very little wear on them. Aside from some minor rubbing on the plastic clip inside the front wheel wells (which does not affect the ride), I have been really happy with how they look and drive.

Yesterday though, I noticed that my brakes started squeaking virtually every time I stop!! I find the sound very annoying and I'm wondering if this has to do with switching the wheels & tires. Or, is is because the tires have far more tread left than my old ones, and they are made from a harder synthetic rubber? Or, because it's the first time I've driven them on a wet road? Anybody else had the same issue?

How many miles on the Tahoe? More than likely you need to replace/ upgrade your brakes, which should really be done whenever you put big wheels on. Do they make noise only when stopping, and can you hear it when you are just rolling real slow without braking?
When I put my wheels on, I upgraded my front bakes to accommodate the bigger wheels but left the rear brakes a lone because they do much less braking than the fronts. A few weeks ago I was hearing noise from the rear and it turns out I needed to replace the rear pads and resurface the rotors. The noise was coming front he wear bars on the rear pads.

ya you may need to get upgrade your brakes to accomodate to the new heavier/bigger rims and tires

you need to go ahead and upgrade front brakes and do ceramic pads to stop squeaks on your ride,i had the same issue and now its gone plus it stops on a dime now =) good luck with ur whip.

I've got about 38k miles right now. It only makes the noise while stopping, but it really gets on my nerves nonetheless. I guess upgrading to new brakes it is! I have read that the ceramic pads are much better performance and fuel economy wise than the metal pads, so I think that's what I'm going to go with. The guys that I go to for maintenance and things like are super fast and have reasonable prices as well- so I'll have to do this sooner rather than later. Thanks guys!! Just FYI, if you are going to do your pads make sure that you upgrade your front rotors at the same time. The front OEM rotors are pretty ******. You can upgrade your front rotors and pads for fairly cheap depending on what route you go. Stay away from anything that is cheap on eBay or fully cross drilled. EBC makes a very good rotor. Powerslot and SSBC also makes a pretty decent rotor as well.

welcome to bigger wheels, less brake petal feel and stopping distance syndrome.
Usually after 22" and bigger a good upgrade is Powerslot ( or the sort) rotor and better pads. ( like Hawk) Just a much larger rolling mass to stop the truck now.

Squealing? Doubt it's the brakes, especially with only 38k. I'd look for clearance issues with the brake calipers on the wheels. You might be getting contact between them with the wheels when brake pressure is applied. Just sayin'

This may sound a fetched, but I doubt its the 24s causing that like Chistoso said. Take the Tahoe to any road side mechanic (or have someone you know do it) and have them loosen the front wheels (or back ones, whichever ones are squeaking) and retorque them to 130Lbs/ft of torque per lugnut. A torque wrench should be used for that ad done in a star pattern.

I can bet the people who put them on impact wrenched them on and maybe they are too tight, worth the try.
