I was just informed that I have a broken motor mount on my 2008 Chevy Tahoe. I recently had it in for repairs on a wheel well cover where the screws had busted and popped the cover off. In reading through previous threads about this on this forum site, I now understand why my dashboard is also cracked in two places. This is a very expensive repair and I never would have imagined that a motor mount would crack! I have had two previous Chevy "trucks" and had transmissions issues with both of those, and now this. $500 to fix this at the chevy dealership, and thats WITHOUT fixing the dashboard plus I have had it in already for the wheel well cover (in which case the cracked engine mount was not discovered at that time). I bought my second Tahoe to use it to pull a horse trailer and my boat which is why I wanted the bigger engine.....but it seems to me that GM needs to stop cheating out on parts! I have a '66 GTO and the motor mounts have never broken! Sigh......it may be time to make the switch to a Ford soon.....

Unfortunately I have not had good luck with private mechanics as apparently work has NOT been done that I have paid for and as a woman I have just had better luck at the dealerships. This is just a big expense on a vehicle that should never need motor mounts replaced!

I wish I had more to say than "I feel your pain".

My '08 has a cracked dash and broken engine mount(s). I have plans for how I want to fix/upgrade these items, just gotta find the time and money.

The problem with these mounts, is they are fluid filled, and they tend to fail quicker.

I paid a shop 300 for my drivers side motor mount a few weeks ago. Pretty sure they had to lift the motor up. Cracked dash is mainly a southern problem from the heat

Yeah that seems to be the case in all newer vehicles.

My last Audi actually tripped a service code (different than CEL) for a motor mount the week I traded it in. The mounts in that car were actually monitored by the computer.

My 07 and 05 previous do that never had problems with the dash cracking. I grew up in Arizona, where we were used to using sun shades pretty much year round. I've kept up that habit, maybe that has something to my dashes lasting.

What aftermarket mounts can we get to avoid future issues? I hear harder material like polyurethane causes harder vibration? Is that the sacrifice we make for longer lasting mounts?

I just replaced the motor mounts in my 09 Tahoe two weeks ago. I would go with OEM mounts. They will run about 90 bucks each. It is a very common problem like NathanJax said. They are simple enough to do but a pain to bend over your fender while working on it.
