broken outer door handle on NNBS?

The earlier Z71s with the brushed metal look mirror caps and handles did not break, but rust looking spots keep appearing during the winter due to deicing chemicals according to the TSB.

But at the end of the day you just put stick on chrome plastic (that you can clearly tell are stick on) on a very expensive vehicle... OEM chrome FTW

so...because we paid alot...for a car with door handles that break and a dash that self destructs...you can't use aftermarket parts to fix it?

it's 101 degrees out there...and now I have to buy a $125 worth of door handles, and burn up putting one on the SUV?
and do another door every few months, by other peoples experiences.
thats crazy


i do not like replacing the same part over and over. I have a Dodge truck, and it requires the HVAC doors and balljoints be replaced every few years.
the Dodge keeps me to busy to work on the Tahoe


if it's only the factory OEM Chrome handles that break,
i would rather order 4 standard handles, and the ebay chrome covers,
and put them on ONCE when the OEM's break, and never worry about them again.

the Ebay covers sound like a "long term fix" that only has to be done once.
do they have sharp edges? i saw some on a Dodge Aspen that had horrible edges. post up pics and a ebay link.

whats the combined price of the basic handles & the ebay covers?

sure enough, we got family in town this weekend,and babies in the second row, so EVERYONE is janking (jerking & yanking) on that broke handle.
will the whole thing break off, or is it just that front part?

like Felix implied, it looks ghetto, sticking out from the body, on an expensive SUV.

most vehicles have several inherent flaws, and it's usually up to the internet forums to find the solution & spread the word.

That literally just happened to me! 2days ago! I had the chrome ones also, replaced them with black painted ones for $50 a piece. The black handles look sooo much better, replace all 4!

I think my door handle covers look awesome, I really was surprised by the fitment and quality...I'll get some close up pics soon.

Paid $30 shipped for the whole set btw.

Covers? Yea I want to see pics of those. I am from Birmingham as well, but I live in Auburn now. WAR EAGLE!

Mine are the full replacement handles, straight from a dealership. They were a little expensive, but oh well.

So heres what the "cheap" eBay handle covers I have look like...these are the two drivers side ones. I couldn't be more pleased, especially for the price. And those things are on there really, really good. (sorry they are upside down - still haven't mastered the iPhone after 2 1/2 years)

yeah, those covers look awesome. saw some covers on ebay for ~$35 or so.

i stopped by the dealer, there is a TSB for chrome INTERIOR door handles.

my VIN did not show a TSB for chrome outer door handles
one handle was $45, and not in stock.

i am ordering some GM ones on ebay now, just get the whole set of four chromies, and replace one every so often, i guess.

Mine has the exact same problem but I am out of factory warranty. I bought the truck 3 weeks ago, so I called the salesman who told me that his truck did the same thing (except his came completely off!!) and GM told him it was cosmetic, so they wouldn't replace. COSMETIC??? You mean to tell me that an exterior door handle falling completely OFF is not a functional defect?? Anyway, he told me that he bought aftermarket replacements (couldn't remember where he got them) that had to bolts/screws that held it to the door skin rather than the cheap plastic clips GM uses. Anyone have any idea where to find those?? This is retarded.....
