I may be getting a little ahead of myself, but I wanna start planning my next project, which is a decent sound system in my car.

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to audio, so I am giving the opportunity to the fine members of TYF to design it for me! I listen mostly to all types of rock so I would prefer something that makes this sound best!

I am looking to get a DD head unit, a pair of 12's, a decent amp, and keep my stock bose speakers for now.

I would prefer a head unit that has DVD, Navi, and an input for a backup camera.

I would also like to know what would be required to use the stock bose speakers on the new head unit.

My truck is a 2003 Tahoe and I am on somewhat of a budget.

go on crutchfield and under Car Audio click on Car Stereos
then you can click on GPS Vav and from there just click the options you would like on the side and it will start narrowing things down. They have detailed descriptions of what each option does so its easy to use. The one thing you will want to make sure not to over look is steering wheel controls if you have them. Once you get narrowed down you can look at what you like and ask about a few things which you think are in your price range. We could build you $5,000 system but it doesnt help if you can only spend $500 so give us a budget.
As far as adapting to your bose system its a breeze and crutchfield will automatically tell you what you need for that.

For rock you are going to want something around 20 htz. It will sound best from personal experience. You can get a single 15 tune it at 22htz and fit it behidn the third row!

20hz?? do you know anything about audio?? im not trying to be an ass but you cant even hear 20hz... most hood music isnt even that low...

rock is fine above 40-50hz and you are best off with something like 2 10s sealed for nice punchy bass

40-50htz? . You want to be able to FEEL the notes as they are being played. Kind of like your home surround sound. You're subwoofer isn't tuned at 30+htz. It's around 24-26. So you can hear and but more feel it. Everytime people call me retarded for having something at 20 htz. Let me tell you. My 4 15''s at 20 htz would break your windows.

I could already break my windows and blow away 15s any day with my folded horn so im not really too worried about your waste of money system...

Fact is he isnt looking to rock the world at subsonic frequencies he wants bass that will sound good and kick hard and a huge down low box is the route to go for that.

Oh and for your stock bose speakers, don't do anything. Seriously. There is a bose amplifier under your center console that makes them sound just dandy that they are already hooked up to along with your 6.5 bose subwoofer. Don't do anything to that. Just put in a new headunit and hook the amplifer RCAs and remote up to that for better subwoofer sound.
