Alright no as some of you may know i have been working on a HD front end....for quite sometime now... only thing holding me back right now is PAINT....

the HD bumper cap is textured and our well known body shop said they wouldn't even touch it without charging $500++ so im wondering what the best way to go about painting this piece sand it or wet sand ?! id rather do the prep myself then get screwed out of a ton of money.. thanks in advance guys!

Sanding it will give it enough 'tooth' for most paints but you can use krylon fusion for plastics.

Duh, I should have known you were colormatching. Just sand it good and you should be fine.

No, just sand the bumper cap smooth to get rid of the texture and then if you want to wet sand in between coats, that's up to you.

Wet sanding is only neccessary for the final clear coat, or in between coats as mentioned. I would definitely recommend using a D.A. Sander when sanding plastics, it will keep everything looking uniform. There is also an adhesion promoter, I remember that Bulldog is the brand name I used, that should be applied to plastics prior to painting.

Good luck man! I would definitely do it myself rather than pay yhe body shop that much money!
