Sorry Bud, I didn’t mean to take your awesome thread off-topic.

I would like to add one piece of advice without sounding like an ass. I did notice your son wearing gloves which is awesome, but please stress the importance of safety glasses. You would not normally think they would be necessary for an oil change, but it only takes one bad splatter of hot oil to the eye to ruin your day. I’m as guilty as the next guy for not wearing them all the time, but I’ve had my share of close calls. Most of them were actually when using my weed whacker.

Thank you again for sharing your story, it’s awesome to read something uplifting from time to time. Your kids are very fortunate to have a caring father ( parents ).

It’s all good. The discussion was great and about relationships between dads and their kids so it was right in line with the spirit of the thread!

Good point on the glasses. Thanks. And to think that I just implemented a policy requiring safety glasses at work.

Good ole oil changes.... I absolutely hated having to do it in auto shop in high school.... but I’m so thankful I learned about it and that I can handle it myself! Thankfully I can wear gloves as well. Haha. Still hate the smell of motor oil.... :D
Ha! Speaking of smells, he was rather unimpressed with the bad odor coming from the dirty brake fluid. He also got to experience the smell of gear oil this spring when he helped change the differential fluids in our Yukon.

Well, today was oil change day for Joseph’s truck.

While changing the oil, I popped off the cap tot he master cylinder and had Joseph use a manual fluid pump to empty it out and then put in new fluid. No time to bleed the brakes today, but wanted to at least get some of it replaced. It is definitely on the to-do-soon-list.

Teaching him right Wade. I loved when my son helped me when he was younger. I really enjoyed the father and son time.
