What's with the gloves?? Your sons need to skin some knuckles and slice some fingers, as the resulting scars are part of the overall truck/auto maintenance and repair learning experience.
Seriously, it is GREAT to see you providing these invaluable life skills to your sons.

Oh - They have been there.
We usually use a slurry made up of Dawn dish soap and granulated sugar to clean up. The Dawn breaks up the grease and the sugar granules are a great scouring agent that doesn't sting. Learned that from an old timer at my first job about 22 years ago. Stuff works great.
Even leaves your hands nice and soft in case you need to perform some hands-on activities later that night.

I've never heard of these degreasing methods before. When I was younger and at home I'd use Goop(Father had it) or I'd use dish detergent.Oh - They have been there.

Ah! GOOP! That gelatinous white stuff with magical properties. Used many a tub of that stuff growing up.
Seriously, try the sugar/dish soap slurry next time. Gotta plan ahead or ask for help from your mate so you don’t get grease all over your baking supplies.
