I have a 99 Tahoe with the 5.7 liter, just got the truck a few months ago and never drove it until last week. Noticed one day I was low on coolant, filled it up and I had a miss on Cyl 6. Someone told me that the intake gaskets on these are known to blow. I changed the upper and lower intake gaskets and still burning coolant :emotions122:. No coolant in oil. my truck still has a miss. Any suggestions?:Stupid Me:

Thanks, Jeremy

check plugs for white crusty stufff built up on the electrode.. if you find any, its a blown headgasket.
Or your intake gasket repair didnt seal properly..

Most likely head gasket issue.

thanks for the quick response guys, im kind of leaning towards the head gasket myself. I thought it was that in the first place but i figured i would try to save some money and hope its just the intake gasket. i guess ill be pulling the heads off this weekend. how are these head about cracking from heat? looks like the guy before me over heated the truck and im kind of worried about cracks in the head.

Vortec heads are notorious for cracking from over heating.
If your going to pull them take them to a shop have them cleaned and checked.. Its worth your time and money.

If you have milky oil then yea u have blown head gaskets. If it overheated then theres a good posobility that the heads cracked. I would just put new heads while putting gaskets because if you do have them cracked then you gotta pull thwm back out and waste time to do that. I dont think thay they are that expensive for new ones and the gaskets themselves arent that expensive either
