My 2015 Yukon Xl has a little over 5000 miles on it and I am preparing for a 2000 mile trip towing my bass boat. I bought the truck to tow my boat. When I bought the truck it came with a 2 year service contract which includes oil changes. In prep for my trip I noticed that the oil life has about 35% remaining so I am thinking that I want to get the oil changed prior to my trip so that I am not in the middle of no where towing a boat and the oil light comes on.

Make an appointment at a dealer about 10 miles from mile house and when I arrive the tech informs me that they cannot do the oil change under the contract because I have 35% remaining and that I would either have to pay or wait for the light to come on.

I explain that I am leaving town and don't want to be in the middle of no where trying to find a dealer and/or a place to keep my boat while I get the oil change and that I have a big trip ahead of me.

Long story short I get told to kick rocks or pay for the oil change.

Read the small print. What a joke.

PS-I love the truck but I was not happy that I took the morning off and wasted my gas. Hell I would have changed the oil myself.

That's crazy! I've had my oil changed at the dealer 3 times and I'm only at 14k miles. My first change was at 1500 miles to get that "break in" phase oil out. I've never made an appointment either... I kinda just show up.. lol... sorry to see your having trouble, maybe try another dealer?

Did they tell you how low the percentage has to get before they'll change the oil?

Also, I agree that this is frustrating. Since the dealer is probably worried about GM reimbursing them for the service, you should contact GM directly and explain what's going on.

Contacting GM may or may not help. Worth a shot, though.

Oil Life monitor must be below 20% or at Owner's Manual recommended intervals.

I have two Chevy Suburbans and one GMC Yukon XL. I bought them all used for work. They are all newer vehicles. Going to the Chevy service versus the GMC service has been completely contrasting levels of service. At the GMC dealer they come out, greet you even with no appointment, and get you taken care of. At the Chevy dealer you have to park, walk in there, find a guy who's available tell him what you need. It was awful! I will never buy a Chevy because of the level of service I got at the dealer. Really felt like they just didn't even care. I don't know if this is the norm in other places. I can't believe they jacked you around on the oil change! That's just ignorant! Definitely call GM and let them know what's going on! I would be pissed

This is the same way BMW operates with their maintenance plans. When we had our Mini, the first oil change wasn't until 20k miles. If you wanted it changed before then - its on your dime. I think that's how a lot of manufacturers do their maintenance plans.

Thanks this is good to know. Looks like you have to get lucky with a dealer that doesn't care.

This is dealer problem. Mine tells us to bring it in early and gives us a loaner while its being done. Not all dealers are created equal. I custom ordered my SLT XL and had it in 3 weeks, why, because the inventory manager modified an existing dealer order instead of starting from scratch. A good dealer makes all the difference.

I was always under the impression that the 24 month (2yr) Routine Scheduled Maintenance was just that... scheduled routine maintenance. I wouldn't think that would mean I could bring it in every month for a new oil change (figuratively speaking).

Your situation is a bit unique, I would have though that dealer would have went ahead and done that for you. I mean it's only a $30 oil change.

My SDHD is at 3,400 miles and a hair under 4 months old and I just got an email from GM asking to bring the truck in for replacement of oil filter/oil, and tire rotations, etc.

That doesnt really suprise me. Remember, we are talking about a 8.5 quart 0w20 synthetic oil change that is probably pushing a retail of $100++ here.

I would expect them to require 10% or less honestly.

Along the same lines - how many of you think the dealer is actually using A.) The correct viscosity oil and B.)Synthetic Dexos oil?? lol. Highly doubtful. Probably 8.5 quarts of the cheapest thing they can get their hands on and then billing GM for Mobil 1 Synthetic.
