Hi all, i am looking to buy a 2017 Yukon Denali. It has around 60,000 miles. Still with the first owner. I will do a test drive tomorrow.
What are the known issues with it? I understand it has the 8L90 which is prone to issues?

What should I be looking for and what immediate things are to be done if I go for it.

I am based in Saudi. The car is a middle east spec car.

Service records would be first. Assuming it has the 6.2L engine listen for a ticking sound. Unfortunately this engine has had its share of lifter problems with AFM. However since it’s a Saudi truck maybe it doesn’t have it? Not sure. Also check the AC these have had condenser failure issues. If you have a trusted mechanic have it checked out. If you buy it get all fluids changed.

Don’t get the 2017. Get the 2018 and up with the 10 speed and no condenser issues. Just google 2018 Yukon Denali changes.

yes i decided against buying this one. it was a good clean and looked after. the gear shift from 1st to 2nd was rough and there was a grinding sound from the back (maybe the diff?) at around 60mph. all fluids had been changed at regular intervals but i guess the model year is problematic in itself. thanks for the advice!

Good call. There’s no worse feeling than getting a new to you vehicle and finding major problems. Happened to me once. It was terrible.

Look for a 2018 Escalade luxury. They are very well equipped and come close to a Denali in price. 2018-2020 10-speed. The 2018 Escalade is still up to date on tech. If you live up north or somewhere it rains allot stay away from electric steps. The TV is good if you have babies. I had the oem TV headrest in my 2008 for 14 years and my daughter wanted it rarely. We keep a iPad in the car connected to WiFi. They make a good iPad holder for this truck.

No major issues with 2017. It comes down to drivetrain differences between years. Watch for year to year issues with that, otherwise watch for the normal stuff- that everything works, how it drives etc.
We got an extended warranty when we bought our 2017 in case any major issues popped up which might have triggered the trade in to begin with, or that no one was aware of.
