Hello all, I am debating on buying my first 2001 Yukon SLT edition. I have a few questions before I purchase the vehicle though. It has a 6 inch lift placed on it with 24" rims, very thin, low profile tires.
Can anyone tell me what type of lift this is, is it possible to lower the lift (and how) & what size tire & rim SHOULD be placed on a vehicle like this? I am attaching photos of the suspension, vehicle & tires. Also, is there anything I should be worried about if I do buy this this vehicle? Thanks for any help/advice youre able to give me

Looks like a rough country 5" lift, with a 3" body lift. Could easily run 35" tires. Body lift looks awful with those nerf bars. That gap is terrible. Put some 17-20" wheels with 33-35" tires and it will look much better. Also ditch the Z71 decals and nerf bars. If everything else is sound and its not beat to piss, $4k ish sounds alright. Youll be spending some good money on wheels and tires though to make it look right.

Thanks for the advice. The white shocks on the Yukon say "Ranchero" So you think it's a rough country, not a skyjacker lift?
What do you think it would retail if I were to add that same lift to a factory Yukon? I think he was trying to clone the Z71 with the details, I noticed they were stickers.. I believe it is an SLT.
BTW, sorry for all the questions. I'm new to 4x4s, I just got over cancer & am trying to treat myself to something nice. Thanks again

Wow, big lift. No expert here, but the CV angles look fine and I see no spacer under the rear spring and no shock extensions or anything like that, so appears to be a solid lift.

Regarding the body lift, agree the gap does not look attractive. The Z71 trim and nerf bars would help I believe. I'm not sure what is involved with installing them, but I almost bought a 2006 Z71 that had a 3" body lift. From the side it looked completely normal. I will try to post pics if I can find them. I think there is a black Z71 with a 3" BL in the "Post your lifts" thread that looks good. Or just shoot some Krylon flat black on the frame where it is showing.

I think the wheels look terrible, but you could get some money for them. Personally I would go with 35s on 17s. Also do you know what the gear ratio is? For 35s, 4.30s are about ideal, and anything less than 3.73 will suck. And it's a few grand to re-gear. You could go with 33s to help with that, but they won't look right on a truck that high. Would be fine if you removed the Body lift.

I don't know what other people are doing, but with a lift that big I'd want to add a backup camera. Mine is barely up 5" and I want one.

Dont worry about a regear - I have 3.08 (granted 6 speed), and 35s and its fine. I doubt its higher than 3.73 anyway. Could be a Rancho or RCX, not sure on those models, but like Jack said, the angles are flat which is what you want.

Thank you, you and flatdale have given me very helpful info. Not sure of the gear ratios, just know it's from North Carolina. Dude removed the 20" tires & put those goofy 24" street rims (whatever you wanna call em) I figure it'd be a nice starter vehicle for me, nice for Ohio winters. I guess these suspensions are similar to firearms, they only go on one way & go back another
Good advice about the backup camera too, I have 3 children & lots of neighbor kids around here. Thanks again

Saw your profile pic, very nice truck. I figure the Yukon is a good starter truck for me to figure out odds and ends of suspension & what makes it tick. And then maybe move on to a more decent 4x4 in the future (Four Runner of Cherokee but really like Yukons best) But I think I'll stick with Chevys most likely. You've been VERY helpful, thank you.
