Some of you may call me crazy, but in my quest to improve mileage, I am thinking about going from the 3.73 gears that my 95 has, to a 3.42... Most of my driving is on the highway, and that's really where I am looking to improve. As of now I don't tow. (although may get a pontoon boat soon...)

Just looking for thoughts...I remember my old 78 Chevy caprice wagon...400 small block, th350 trans, and a 2.41 ratio...i was getting great mileage with that thing...and it was a beast.

I know that there is not all that much difference in the ratios to make it worth while, unless I found someone willing to swap...lol

It makes sense. Though I'm not sure how many people would agree, hah.
You'll have to swap out front and rear at the same time.

I don't think either one of you guys have the tools/exp to setup a used gear set and most shops aren't goign to waste their time with that job.

If you are complaining about gas mileage, then just sell the truck.

Like GM then buy yourself a Saturn. great on gas and Extremely easy to work on.

I agree with you, they probably dont have the proper tools to do this.

Why do you say "most shops aren't going to waste their time with that job" ?
Swapping gears is a very common and popular mod that most shops around me would be happy to do. Even back home, I dont know of any shop not willing to do it.

Swapping in used gears ... most shops won't do it.
