I'm wanting to do a cam swap on my L59 5.3 Was wondering if a swap to a ls6 cam and springs would be worth it or if I should just go to comp cams or a reputable company like them to get one. After I do the cam swap I plan on getting a custom tune for it from black bear. Any advice or thoughts is welcome.

I think your best bet is to talk with the experts (cam companies) about the set up you want and your budget. When I decided to go with a 408 I spoke with my builder to get everything I wanted and to list my budget. Doing it piece meal can get expensive quickly.

What he said. Call the company you want to go with, give them what you want out of the cam and your supporting mods. They can recommend a grind.

If I go to the company with a cam i already have (have a buddy with one he ended up not using) will they be able to recomend all the extra knicks and knacks id need? Also im looking for a little more power since i slapped bigger tires and other mods to mine so theres more weight to get up and moving im not exactly look for a drag truck, would the cam swap be best first or a tune first, and anyone know of the costs for each? trying not to kill my wallet

decide on your goals for the truck. I went with the trucker cam and i wouldn't want a more aggressive cam for DD...plenty of tq, but I'm running a 6ltr with a stall..expect to do springs and hardened pushrods at the bare minimum. plenty of info out there on ls cam swaps.

look at the tech tips and decide what you want. that ls6 cam may be a bit sluggish down low in a tahoe..
