Okay guys, I'm new to the forum and I have a question. I am working on doing some mods to my 96 Tahoe with the 350. Starting with a mild cam. I talked to Summit Racing and they recommended a Crane Cam. It runs about $500. I was told I could get a cam from a corvette that would do the same thing for about half the price. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any pointers to gain some HP are also appreciated.

(I have a CAI, dual exhaust, and a Superchip.) I mainly use the truck for towing and occasional offroading.

First, your in a heavy SUV. you DONOT, I repeat DONOT, want a corvette cam.
It will Not do what a Torqer cam is designed to do in a big fat heavy SUV.
That cam is designed for higher RPM usage and will not be happy towing.

What part number on that crane cam, summit recommended?
Dont be stingy on the cam, if you go with a "mild" cam. you will want more in a cpl months.
Get a good 2800-3k rpm converter and a cam to go with it.
Go as big as you can while keeping your torque between 1300-5500.

Look into a set of heads while your thinking of mods..
Heads make or break a engine.. if you have crap heads. which you do.. you will Never, make good power.
Call summit again and talk to them about world products cylinder heads.
I have had good experience with them.

If you want gains. Get some gains! don't ***** foot around..

Hope your ready for this, that can of worms your about to open is endless.

Yes, a Superchip programmer. I am running the Performance 91^ octane tune.

The part number was CRN-104225. I was looking for mild cam that would help unleash some power without totally rebuilding. I get what you are saying. "go big or go home" I started looking at cam and head sets. I will call Summit soon, they were very helpful. I'm sure they can find something for me. I'll post soon after I get some more info. Thanks for the input, man.
