Well..after getting a rebuilt set of heads on the 'ol girl not much has been going right.. The cam position sensor wouldn't set to clear the service engine light off the cluster and I had a tire blow out on the hwy(not related to the cam).. I was told by the mechanic that it's likely a bad cam pos. sensor so I spent some extra $ and ordered a Summit aluminum distributor and a minor upgrade to stock. Well I took the truck back in after match marking and installing the new dist. and the computer will STILL not hold the setting. Now she's running like a top, but the idiot light remains..And the sensor sets at 4k rpm so the thrill of hearing the 141k/mi.engine roar is now turning to caution..The mechanic hinted that the timing chain may have a little slack on it, preventing it from setting and it appears that I have a bad O2 sensor now too...

->Does anyone know what could be preventing the truck's computer from locking in the cam setting (4 times)-before and after new distributor/sensor?

do the rpms on the tach match pretty close to a scanner read out? if not then your crank sensor system is faulty. the IP gauge reads off of the the ignition system.
