Can the engine, transmission, and transfer case be hoisted out/in together as a single unit with the '99-'06 GM trucks and SUVs?

I have '02 Yukon XL 4wd with the 5.3L/4L60E combo where I removed the transfer case first, and then the engine and transmission together from truck for some repairs.

I was thinking of reinstalling them together as a single unit if it's been done before? It'd save me some time if it's possible to combine all three parts into a single unit..

:hmmm2:

i suppose its possible since its 4x4 youd have to put it up on a lift and hoist all three together up through the bottom of the vehicle after remove the front diff
its possible but it would be a challange
thats kinda funny you mention this because in a bradley fighting vehicle the engine and tranny comes as one unit we call it a pack so we always removed and installed the engine and tranny together

thinken about it a little more
youd have to get the vehicle up on a lift drop the front suspension
drop a hoist down through the hood some how bolt it to the engine and hoist it up just enough to get the block and tranny off the ground then maybe put the tranny on a transmission jack so its all kinda level then get one person to hoist the block while you jack up the transmission jack

Thanks for your post to try and help. Bradley fighting vehicle? I learn something new everyday.. :) I'm working by myself at home without a lift, and on jack stands. I do have an engine hoist that I used to remove the engine and transmission together.

I bought a leveler for my hoist with a hand crank so it can adjust the angle of engine and transmission. I was looking at the engine bay, and it seems there may be enough room to hoist engine, transmission, and transfer case together into truck through the front if I use leveler.

I removed my grill, radiator, a/c condenser, etc., and the engine with transmission came out through that way. My hood is still on the truck. I thought I saw a post somewhere how a person did it with the transfer case also but without the hood I think.

Thanks!

I pull engine and trans out the top. Never done the bottom method. Have no lift.

To make this far simpler.
Lower the air pressure in your tires and get the nose down.
I have even taken front tires off and set the vehicle down on the rotors, resting on 2x4's.

Doing this requires far les lift on the hoist to get the engine out.

I pulled my engine, & transmission out through the front top. I didn't do it from the bottom. I was just asking if I can drop in my engine, transmission, & transfer case together as a single unit through the front on top? Thanks!

When the shop installed my 6.0 ** & 4L65E, they raised the whole body about 5' above the frame with a lift and removed engine & trans as one unit.

as long as the cherry picker or hoist is rated to handle the wieght of all three
and the radiator has to come out and hood has to come off and once its cranked up high enough so the weight is off the car you probably gonna have to start moving up and forward gradually to get the tranny and t case to clear the firewall
