Can HMI be re-programmed to enable locking the 'secret compartment'?

I think GM really missed the target with the secret compartment. What good is it if it can't be locked? Even when the car is off and no key present, you can still open it. I realize you can enable Valet Mode but that locks everything else out (nav, radio, etc.)

I want to be able to set the compartment to always be locked when the car is off, and also to have a separate lock code independent of the Valet Mode. It seems if they can program other functionality into the unit that this should be pretty simple. Has anyone tried?

Sure but how much are you willing to spend on development time? Something like that would be very very expensive to redo.

I'd like to start the bidding at $1.50

I would pay a few hundred for it. I'm sure others would too. It's cheaper and better than an in-car safe.

Yeah that wouldn't cover even two hours of dev time, all you have to do is pull the screen up; in vehicle safe is WAY better.

Sheet, Da auction closed way too soon. I was gonna bid Fo.
If a thief knew about this compartment, it could easily be cracked open with a hammer or pry bar potentially causing thousands of damage. Find a less obvious place for your stash if its valuable, otherwise let em have it without doing the damage.

my thoughts are thieves already know about this compartment, and they will bring a ball peen hammer & bust right thru the screen, so it's useless for "security"

my wife keeps all the various cell phone chargers in there, so they are separate from the other clutter in her center console.
