Kind of a dumb question I guess, but can I cut off my exhaust pipe after the muffler to get rid of the "donkey *******" (quoted from another thread) look on my stock Yukon?

Exhaust is stock. I am going to replace the muffler with a magnaflow eventually, but it's kinda down lower on my list right now.

Short answer 'yes'. For Missouri, you just have to have like 12" of pipe after the muffler per state law. Not sure about your state.

unknown at this time.
If you do at least put a downward facing tip on the muffler. You should have no problems with legality but if you have openings or leak door gasket you are more likely to get bad gases in you cabin which is not good.

Make sure it is still supported enough. I know mine have hangers right AFTER the muffler. Without them it would fall off

On my 2001 z71 tahoe I heard a rattling noise from the factory resonator so I cut it off and got a flowmaster muffler with down-firing tip welded on and it sounded great. The rattling was gone and it had a nice deep sound.

Had to rain on your parade, but legally, you are supposed to have the exhaust exit in the factory location or further back.... On pick-up trucks you can get away with cutting the exhaust off because it's still behind the cabin area. On our rides, the entire vehicle is considered cabin space and therefore the exhaust has to exit behind the cabin space - i.e. not under the vehicle and not before the axle. Enforcement is another matter... that will depend upon the individual officer in your area.

Really? Is this a federal regulation or just state law? I've never heard of this and am certain, if true, I've known more than just a few violators....

That being said I definitely understand why the regulation would be in place.

I have mine dumped approximately where the drivers seat/back passengers feet are on my 4 door and I get pulled over plenty of times.. Even pulled over by DOT.
