We had an 04 GMC Yukon XL with rear air and my kids loved it. Now I have this 96 Tahoe with no form of rear temperature control. Is there something I can get parts from that came with rear air? Even if I have to swap from the front bench to buckets and a center console with vents on the back of it. Summer's in Alabama are rough so my kids are very very hot without air flow in the back. I'm getting some tint put over the factory tint this week but I really would like to add some vents either in a console or in the roof. Thanks guys.

My 99 tahoe 4 door has rear air.....If your 96 is a 4 door they should be compatible. The rear A/C is mounted in the cargo area on the passenger side with the vents in the headliner...

You have two vents already behind the front seats either side of the drive-shaft hump. I know it is not much but they are there. Adding a factory rear system is a lot of modification in wiring, plumbing and ducting not to mention possibly trim pieces too.

Im not sure of your financial situation but its probably better getting a differant truck. You would need a new condenser (200.00) Y-pipe (100.00) accumulator and orifice (40.00) lines which run front to rear (400.00) rear evaporator and expansion valve (250.00) evaporator box and blower motor (????), trim pieces and then the labor! IMO your talking alot of work.

Unless you can find a wrecked tahoe that you can salvage everything out of and do the most of the work yourself maybe it wouldnt be too bad. IDK

What if I got a center console from a Denali or something with the vents on the back of the console? When I've done the interior swaps in a couple other GM trucks you swap the lower part of the dash and run the ducting to the back. Honestly that would be more than enough. I never wanted to swap in a whole rear AC setup. On the 04 GMC Yukon we had it was a 3 row bench truck from the factory. I swapped all the interior from a SLT truck. The signal mirrors, headed seats, the 4 captains chairs and rear bench. Also swapped the center Jim seat for a center console which meant swapping the bottom of the dash and part of the ducting to get AC vents on the back of the console. If the Escalade, Denali, Suburban or Tahoe with a center console has ducts in the back of the console I might try and find one in a wrecking yard. Just some air flow in the back will be more than enough.

I did flush the coolant today and swapped in new coolant with Red Line's Water Wetter and the temperature dropped about 20-30°. Now the AC blows much much cooler. We'll see how much it improves the temperature for the kids in the back.

20-30 degrees? WHAT? I used it a few times and NEVER seen any kind of drop of more then 5 degrees!

I assume you changed your thermostat as well?
