I used the CANBUS ones because I got a big pack of them on Amazon for cheap. They aren't needed, and issues others are having may just be with the quality of the bulb. I had regular LEDs in my last truck for 3 years and never had any issues with flicker, or dimming, etc.

One nice thing about the CANBUS bulbs that I have is they aren't polarized, so you don't have to worry about putting them in backward and them not working. It's a little thing, but it just makes things easier.

Our vehicles are non canbus. Not sure why your LED's didn't dim, mine do. Might have just been cheap quality.

I've never experimented, but I kind of have to agree with Red Rocket. Most cars were not CAN BUS until fairly recently. I don't think CAN was standardized until '10? I could be wrong, but it was sometime around then.

I dont think anyone is arguing that our vehicles are CANBUS.

I know my 02 isn't CANBUS and according to Superbright LED's if you use CANBUS led's in a vehicle that's not CANBUS it can cause problems with other vehicle electronics. I have always been told to match up your lights and things like your OBDII programmer accordingly.

Here's info from them:

Can you use CAN Bus LED bulbs in non-CAN Bus applications?

CAN Bus LED bulbs should not be used in non-CAN Bus applications because in most cases they can cause other vehicle circuits to have problems. Electrical systems are much like the flowing water in a river. If a log or other obstacle is placed in its path, the water backs up, but then finds another route. A CAN Bus LED bulb presents more resistance than the stock bulb due to built-in resistors and may cause feedback into other circuits in the non-CAN Bus electrical system.
