Can't lock radiator fan to unscrew

I am trying to remove the radiator fan and when I put the wrench on it it just spins. The belt is still on and tight. Can anyone advise me as to what to do?

Put wrench on the fan clutch nut and whack it with a hammer hard and quick with a hammer in a counter-clockwise direction. Looking at it from the front of the vehicle facing the rear is where i am referencing. It may need a few whacks till break it loose. Once you see the nut spinning freely, spin the fan by hand to get it off the water-pump pulley.

A trick is to have a helper put tension on the belt tensioner while you do this.

Soaking the fan clutch nut in PB Blaster doesn't hurt either.

I always use my pneumatic hammer to do this so it's easy but I remember the DIY days.

Pretty easy to do. Since you've got a wrench put it on and whack it with a heavy hammer

I just went through this yesterday. After an hour of fighting it, I put a chain wrench on the pulley and ended up using a wrench on the nut with a 2 foot breaker bar. Definitely not ideal but i got it done. Try a strap wrench first. use anti seize on the threads when you reinstall too

Thank you all for the good advice. I worked around the fan. It was a pain in the butt but I got the power steering pump changed out and the whine is gone.

I dont envy you. It took me an hour but I did get the fan off. After that is was all easy

guys, use a long bar to get the torque required to bust it loose.

I use a big crescent wrench and a piece of fence pipe 4' long.
put a pillow on the fender to stop damage.

Then simply whack the pipe with a sledge hammer. it instantly pops loose.
