First time poster and I tried to search and find this question but I have not found my exact situation.
'21 Yukon Denali

When I (primary driver and the only account set up in the menu) have my phone plugged in (or wireless, seems to be the same problem) and while I'm using CarPlay for Navigation, Audio, or anything...

The system will automatically switch over to other recognized (secondary) phones in the car.

How do I make that stop? I can't find a setting that "if Jay's iPhone is plugged in, quit trying to switch to a different phone"!)

I don't think this is the same as the "changing audio source" question that I keep seeing as that appears be a switching between in-dash audio and iPhone audio. In my case it is changing CarPlay to a different phone input.

There may be a setting on either ohone that forces the car to select that automatically when it detects that phone. I know in android auto in my phone i can set it up to automatically start it, as well as change audio ti come from that ohone as well as start navigation. I dont know if apple has something similar. If that doesn't work can you turn off on the secondary phone whatever apple uses to connect to the vehicle? Wifi or bluetooth, so it doesnt jump to that phone?

There’s a setting when you go under phones, tap the info button on the one or both of the phones individually where you can turn off an option to connect the other phone via Bluetooth when one is connected via CarPlay.

I think that’s what is happening. Your phone is connected via CarPlay and the other phone is connected via Bluetooth.

are you saying a setting in the Yukon or a setting on the iPhone? I'll note I don't think we have this problem on the '19 Acadia so I was assuming I need to look for a Yukon setting.

There is a “first to connect” option which is set in my Yukon. I’ve not experienced the issue you refer to.
Have had a few intermittent fail to connect

This is an older thread but I resurrected it because a secondary connection issue is very frustrating in my 21 Yukon.

Here is my scenario:
I am running under my profile. In the Phone setting section, I have my phone set to be the "First to Connect". Apple CarPlay connects to my phone as expected but then it connects to my wife or kids phone as the secondary. I don't want them connected. In that same menu, I then turn off the "Secondary Phone" option that allows bluetooth connections alongside another phone. I hit the back button, select the secondary phone and disconnect it. All is fine for the rest of the drive.

The next time I go to drive the car, it connects a secondary phone again. When I go back into the menu (again, under my profile), the "Secondary Phone" connection is re-enabled and I have to do the entire process again of turning it off and disconnecting the secondary phone. So my problem is that the interface doesn't remember that I turned off secondary phone connections. Have anyone experienced this?

Did you ever figure out how to fix this?! Mine keeps deleting my phone and adding back the phones I deleted. Its so aggravating!
