As others have stated there are other things to check first. Manifold leaks, exhaust leaks, maybe even a bad O2 sensor. Replacing the cat would be last on the list.

Our legislature and governor have enacted a law requiring use of CARB compliant cats when replacement is needed. Essentially a siamese twin law that references Californicate's law. How about we think for ourselves?

OP, if you live in California, then buy the cat and have a muffler shop install it. Maybe try a pick-the-part type place first too?
If you live outside of California, just get some magnaflow cat or whatever and call it a day.
Or, if outside California, have it tuned out, like the check engine light can be cleared - plenty of high performance vehicles out there without cats, or so I've heard.

In my city about 1/4 of the vehicles on the road as well as 75% of the Pruises don’t have cats thanks to the cordless cut-off saws that have become so popular and the fact there’s precious metals inside. :D

I use flowmaster cats. Had to replace one in the 03 Yukon Denali and have since cammed & tuned it and it’s the cat is still working great after 40k miles. i had a broken 3rd cat on my wife’s 11 Sierra Denali, didn’t know it until I removed and already started replacing the RT/LF cats. So removed downstream 3rd cat and replaced the other two, it would start randomly throwing a 430 code so I added an o2 sensor extension and no more code. Ugliest welds I’ve ever made, but everything is running great!

There should be a CARB code stamped on the CAT. That's what they used to do. And keep all your paperwork for when you bought it.

definitely cannot buy a used cat in California (to re-use) no shop will weld a used one on for your either because they could loose there business license, I don't think you can anywhere (legally) but could be wrong
