Chatted in service mgr office today about catch cans. I asked what his genius LS tech thought of them. We go back to service and chatted with said genius about the topic at hand. Consensus was, my warranty would not be voided, it does have a positive need, and as long as I didn’t buy the $2.99 version, I should be safe. Even save mgr agreed! My dealer provides the lifetime powertrain warranty, so GM doesn’t have a vote concerning any claims here.

Winning!

I have my K&N I took off if the RST before it left me..

Happy with the JL Catch Can kit. All hoses with proper connections, simple to install bracket. While there are others, I found this was a crazy simple and custom fit install.

I agree, the JL was the best one and super easy install. Fittings were positive and thats the third thing I did to my new Yukon (1st and 2nd things were AFM delete and Stop/Start delete).
I am at a little over 1K miles on the truck now and am going to do the first oil change soon. I will see what comes out of the catch can.

Well, nothing matters if it’s not in writing. If you throw a rod or whatever and say “the service manager said my mod was fine” GM isn’t going to give a shit.

Any time there’s extensive engine failure they’re forced to do extensive documentation they have to send in - specifically so expensive warranty calls aren’t subjective to dealers whims.

Catch can is really not much of a modification or change, all it does is catch vapors returning to the intake path via the same path as the configured by the manufacturer.

With the history of these engines failing, mostly due to bearing and/or lifter related failures, I really would doubt anyone could find a way a catch can could have had any impact on bearing and/or lifter failures.

Not much of a modification but still a modification, they will come back and say the engine design was changed is what caused the failure then you will want to fight it. If it's out of warranty then mod away.

I just took this picture yesterday. This is on a 2015 Tahoe with 5k miles since the last time it was emptied. It catches a TON of oil.

Actually very simple work around, if you are so worried about a catch can voiding any warranty coverage, just remove it before sending vehicle into the dealer. Assuming you did not butcher up any of your hoses, you just put the 1 short hose back on, 5 minute job and remove the catch can, depending on how you mounted it, 5 minutes typically. 1 bolt on my vehicle. I put the original hose in the rear storage area.
