Chambers on oem air intake?

If I get water of any amount on my filter it shows inside the filter on the rubber mount, as well as inside my tube, mine is painted black with ceramic paint so any thing shows up very well..
Only once did I have any water marks inside it.
This was after I went splashing in the puddles like a madman and even then it was only a very small amount. Absolutely nothing to be concerned about.

Ok, I had to look at this some more and jump back in for some more abuse. Unless I'm missing something I guess I see why none of you are worried about ingesting water with these CAI kits.

After looking at a few in ebay it seems that they really aren't cold air kits. All the ones I've seen are basically a replacement for the airbox with a straight tube and a side shield with open top. It looks more like a hot air intake to me. LOL.

Honestly they don't look any better to me than the stock setup with a K&N and a replacement duct. They're a lot different than I remember CAI kits to be 15+ years ago where the filter was in the air stream in front of the radiator.

I have seen one that is a true CAI in regard to pulling air from outside the engine bay and having a ram air effect from a snorkel type design from the front of the vehicle.

As you said they all pull from the stock location.

yup, my Cai is a hot air intake.. lol


But yes, your right, these "new CAI's" are not like the old school that put the filter in the air stream.

But there are a few that pull from a "fresh air" source.

No, it will not hydro lock the engine, the box has a secondary air port in case the primary clogs.

Cleans up the turbulent flow into the manifold, they do offer some hp benefits as well, they arent totally useless. Just not as good as a true CAI that has cooler air.

Some argue stock location design is a CAI to start cause it technically pulls air from the fender well, not engine bay.

I'm thinking you'd be just as well off with a K&N in the stock airbox and replacing the duct between the airbox and intake.

I haven't looked at my current Escalade yet but my previous gen Escalade and old Trailblazer were essentially CAI from the factory with a baffled intake duct. As you mentioned, they did pull air from the fender instead of engine bay.

Thats what i did, MIT from airaid and an aem dryflow filter in stock box. A lot cheaper and the gains are pretty close if not the same, depending on "CAI".

There is a thread, I think from BBP, that showed a comparision of most of them, all pretty close.
