High all

Need someone who knows the np 246 t/case.

I have rebuilt my transfer case, but have one issue. I cant do the final clutch clearance without the special Kent Moore J44295 service tool.

The thing costs an arm and a leg and i don't have an arm and a leg to give.

I want to make it a 2WD, as i never use the 4WD function these days. If its in 2WD permanently i wont have to worry about the tool and can get the truck back together without much hassles.

Would this work, remove one of the frictions form the clutch pack so there is no preload in the clutch pack ?
if not, is there another simpler option?

Its our daily drive and we desperately need this thing on the road.

I would really appreciate any help to get me out of this pickle.

Just measure the height of the new pack and compare it to specs and youll be fine. I dont even bother measuring. I just stick a reputable brand pack in there and go. The clutches are all made to a spec thickness.

If you cant let it go then just take your drum with the pack and have it measured at any 4 wheel drive shop. They will have the tool.
