Lately my CEL is coming on with code p0171 bank 1 lean. Usually when I'm on the highway and i get on it, after a while itll start to run rough. So i hooked up my code reader and looked at live data saw o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 at 0 volts. I'm assuming the o2 sensor is the problem causing it to throw the p0171. Does this make sense? I'm leaning toward the o2 sensor being faulty, since it is somewhat intermittent. Any thoughts? TYIA.

Was it warmed up when you looked at the data?

swap the left & right 02 sensors and see if the code follows the sensor that's probably the easiest way to do it.

If you're gonna go to the trouble of taking them out to switch them, I'd just replace the darn things. Then you know the sensor (s) is good, and can rule it out as a cause if the problem persists.

true, but some of us don't always have the money to throw at a problem, I was just suggesting the swap as a means of troubleshooting at no cost other than a little grease under the fingernails. if the problem persist on the same side then maybe it is a clogged cat or a fuel pressure issue

Agreed to either suggestion above. Issue is you might have one hell of a time getting that O2 sensor out. Especially if it's a east coast vehicle and the original sensor. Just had one of mine replaced. After hearing details of what needed to be done it was the best $190 I have spent to not do the repair myself.

Yeah I think in just gonna replace the sensor. Just wanted a consensus on this. I'll try the sensor first, thanks for the advice.

Well the o2 sensor seemed to have done the trick. So far the hoe is running great. One thing I do have to ask is, is the 5.3 05 hoe normally a dog off the line or is there something else going on I should investigate. Accelerating from a stop hit the pedal and seems like a dog dont know if this is normal for the tahoe. Thanks again for all's opinions.

Yeah, kind of a dog. A black bear tune is the best option for that.
