Well much to no surprise the miracle cure didn't work lol :emotions133:

But it cost maybe an extra 8 bucks over a regular oil change so whatev. The motor flush smells just like diesel...so I'm guessing the just put a quart of it in a bottle and charged you 4 bucks for it. I know diesel is a very common solvent in super sludge motors so it wouldnt surprise me. Anyhow, obviously no harm done. I guess I'll talk to my mechanic about getting cost of replacing the lifters.

Because they are ticking, does it change the reliability of the motor or is it just something to deal with for the moment?

Run the engine sparingly and don't rev it up too high, it's possible that the bad lifter isn't letting oil to the top of the motor.

Yeah I watched some more youtube University as to why they start ticking, the lack of oil flow through the pushrod.

Ever considered sending an oil sample to Blackstone Labs? They'll be able to tell you what metals and their amount, if any, are in your oil. This would help to narrow it down from worn bushing/bearings or damaged lifter.

Yes to blackstone. I'm familiar with them. I likely need to have a pure oil change, no additives to submit though.

And this issue is driving me nuts, because its off and on. Today at the gas station, she was purring like a kitten;

Probably gunk then. You could always turn the radio louder when it starts clacking again!

Well honestly, I can live with gunk......because with frequent oil changes, maybe try the ATF trick, maybe that will clear it up and it will be reliably quiet.
