Chevy Tahoe 2013 6 speed Automatic Transmission

Hi all!
I am looking at replacing my 2001 Chevy Tahoe LT with a 2013 Chevy Tahoe LT. I have loved my Tahoe...it
has been the most reliable vehicle ever but I am ready to get something a bit newer. I found a 2013 with a 5.3 Vortec that I love but I have heard reports of major issues on the 6 speed automatic transmission. What say you Forum? I still believe in Chevrolet and as many are out there on the road I just can't believe that the transmission problem is that bad. I've been a member for a while but today is my FIRST post.

Please sound off for me! I REALLY like this 2013 and would love to make it happen!

don't know where you heard that nonsense, the 8 speed is crap however but those were only on the 15.5 and up to whenever they went to the 10 speed now.
that being said the 2013 is a good choice.

Thank you for the info. I've just heard it from a few folks (not on the forum) but I've had my doubts. My current Tahoe has been a great vehicle. I have ZERO complaints about it and I really wanted to get another Tahoe with a 5.3 Vortec. It's funny...I've owned mine for 12 years. When I got it, it was 7 years old with 99,000 miles. This one I am looking at today is also 7 years old and right at 99,000 miles. I really like the 2013 body style too. Almost seems like fate here!

6sp was one of the better ones imo. Like doubie said the 8’s were terrible

That's nonsense. The 6-speeds are great transmissions, even more reliable than the 4L60 series. If you buy it, change the fluid right away and then every 40K-50K miles thereafter.

Thanks for your input. I've been lurking around here for almost a year reading, learning, and applying that knowledge to assist with some "pro hacks" I've wanted to do with my '01. I KNEW I would hear the straight story here!!

Hi, thanks for your help and vote of confidence on this issue. I drove the car last night and LOVED it. It drove like a good Tahoe should, much like my '01 except quieter and more refined. The 6 speed was silky smooth! I liked it so much I ended up making a deal and buying it...I'll post a pic after I pick it up in the next day or two. Thanks again for you input and more importantly (for your info), yes I have repented, and believe...

Glad to read that you've received lots of informative responses. I have no issues with my 6 speed transmission.

One request, though, going forward...... Don't just participate in this Forum when you need something. Participate more often and contribute, as well. That is how our collective knowledge base grows.

Agreed but there are a bunch of us that peruse all sections and help(or not) when we can on any issue. But a quick @07Burb will move this for us.
